My son suffers from terrible anxiety . A few years ago it to the point we had to put him in homeschooling . He’s incredibly bright . it’s been suggested that he has a form of Asperger's . Over the years my wife and I have been trying to find ways to integrate him back into society but it’s been difficult . Very informative piece , I thank you.
First of all, thank you for sharing your story so openly. Anxiety can be seen as a horrible curse, but also a starting point for deeper creative work. It must be incredibly difficult to both shelter your child, and at the same time coax him out of his comfort zone. This might sound like a completely futile thing, but it has helped me immensely throughout my anxiety: proper breathing. The breath has such an incredible affect on the body. I suggest looking into Nadi Shodhana. If you are open to trying, you can start here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l11qFpRqhIQ
I’ve been going through quite a stressful period right now. Lots of resentment and an eye in the past. Living in the present is such a difficult yet fulfilling thing to do. Interesting how it constantly comes back in everything, Buddhism, self help literature, and even Carl Jung. Great article and I thank you.
These themes truly do come back in everything. A constant, grounded positioning in the present moment seems to be the only secure path towards a happy existence. It all starts with becoming aware and unafraid of our anxious thoughts, and allowing them in instead of nervously pushing them out.
I’m an anxious person by nature, but will try to implement some of these steps into my daily life. Also, I sent you a rather personal email this morning. I hope you have time to look thru it. No stress. Just coming on here to make sure you receive it ;)
Such a good point! We all have our ups and downs, but as long as we live in a continuous, though perhaps not linear, upward trend, then we are doing something right. It’s difficult to be conscious enough about our emotional wellbeing though, especially to the point that you can be ahead of yourself! But, everything with practice.
